“An organized mob of irate youths stormed the arena with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically.
“APC Delta condemns the attack on Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, his wife, children, APC chieftains and party members, beneficiaries and other participants.
“We also use this opportunity to advise Deltans, especially those with opposing interests, to eschew politics of hate and bitterness in the State.
”Ultimately, we believe that in the interest of upholding our democratic norms and the avoidance of unwarranted tension in Urhobo land, everybody should continue to uphold the peace; even as we will continue to seek out ways to support the growth of our society and improve the lives of Deltans.”
Meanwhile, Omo-Agege, has narrated how he missed death by the whiskers.
Unknown gunmen on Saturday allegedly attacked the Senator representing the people of Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege.
The Senator was attacked alongside his wife and children, market women and some leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the second phase of his constituency empowerment program in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The hoodlum staged the violent attacks when Sen. Omo-Agege and his team were already at the market doling out direct financial support to hundreds of petty traders and Okada riders.
They shot sporadically, destroyed chairs and canopies at the event venue and inflicted serious bodily injuries on members of the public.
Those injured were taken to hospitals for treatment on the senator’s timely advice before he and his team drove to the Ekpan Police Station to formally complain to the police authorities.
While calling on the police to act, the statement advised “those who attacked the Distinguished Senator Omo-Agege to turn themselves in to security agencies immediately stressing that.
“We will never accept this violence. Our senator is a peace-loving leader but surely not a weakling. We will not allow anyone create premeditated insecurity in Urhoboland. We will surely tame this bad behavior. God and our people are with us.
“Despite the bloody violence, the Distinguished Senator Omo-Agege wishes to express his gratitude to the market women and youths in Uvwie for their firm support pointing out that no one will stop him from giving back to our supporters in Uvwie and Urhoboland at large.”
