Hehehe....A renowned Lagos based economist and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, Prof. Pat Utomi, has bemoaned the ‘almost absence’ of development in the state despite the huge revenue that had accrued to it in the over 16 years of return of democracy.
Utomi said he feels particularly ashamed of what has become of the state, blaming poor governance by successive administrations for the present level of underdevelopment and infrastructure decay in the oil-rich state.
Utomi argued that if the revenue had been used in judicious manner, the state would have become the Dubai of Africa.
He said, “Each time I look at my state, all I feel is shame. All Delta elites should be ashamed of what have become of their state. With all the resources that the state is blessed with, we have nothing to show more than decayed infrastructure.
“APC in Delta State must reconcile and reconstruct its strategies if we really want a better Delta. If not, history will hold us all responsible for not acting when we should.”
Utomi, while blaming past administrations for the present underdevelopment and several wasted opportunities, accused leaders from 1999 till date of jettisoning great ideas which were freely offered to transform Delta to a place of huge opportunities.
