Gambian President, Adama Barrow, who arrived his home country some hours ago and inspected a guard of honour upon his arrival, has announced details of his official inauguration.
Just after a week after taking the oath of office outside the country in Dakar, Senegal during a whirlwind political crisis, Gambia's new president, Adama Barrow, finally returned to his home country on Thursday, amid wild celebration from his supporters as thousands of people turned out to greet their new president at the airport in Banjul.
President Barrow’s return seems to mark a turning-point of sorts for the tiny African nation, as the focus turns to how he and the team he assembles, will govern.
Expectations are high, but as he confronts the challenges presented by more than two decades of authoritarian rule, Barrow remains optimistic.
He took to his Twitter page late on Thursday and announce details of his official inauguration as the whole country is set to see him kick-off his government in a flying start.

The ousted president of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh has donated the cereal harvested from his farm to his people as he stays in exile.

Former President, Yahya Jammeh

Former President Yahya Jammeh has donated all his proceeds harvested from his farms to President Adama Barrow to be distributed to women in the small West African country.

It would be recalled that The Gambia has a population of about 1.8 million people. Jammeh stated this on Gambian state TV over the weekend.

He said: “I hereby wish President Adama Barrow all the best from the bottom of my heart. The Almighty Allah has decided, and I will be found wanting if I as a Muslim and a former president do not sincerely wish him and his administration all the best”.

“On this note, I hereby donate to President Adama Barrow all the rice that is harvested in my Vision 2016 farms. This is the entire harvest for him to give to women who have been helping at the farms in CRR - Central River Division”.
