Alleged corruption: Buhari bows to pressure, orders AGF to probe Lawal, others

hehehehe...President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to probe all top government officials accused of corruption.
This directive is following the allegation of corruption levelled against Mr. Babachir Lawal, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Lawal was found to have been allegedly involved in allocating contracts to himself to the tune of N108 million without executing them.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, stated this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the presidential spokesman, any government official found guilty of the allegations levelled against them would not escape prosecution.

The statement read, “The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to a number of reports in the media, in which various accusations of corruption have been levelled against some top officials in the administration.
“In that regard, President Buhari has instructed the Attorney General of the Federation to investigate the involvement of any top government official accused of any wrongdoing. If any of them are liable, they will not escape prosecution.”

The statement did not mention names but top government officials who have been accused of corruption so far, included the SGF, the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari; and the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.
The Senate had on Wednesday, called for Lawal to resign following a report by an ad-hoc committee on the “mounting humanitarian crisis in the North East”.

President Buhari has ordered the investigation of top government officials including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, that have been indicted in one corruption investigation or the other. Babachir is alleged to have used his office a the chairman of the Presidential Initiative for North East PINE, to award some contracts to his company.
