Na wa ooo....Uneasy calm now reigns in Orlu as the whereabouts of a prominent medical doctor in Orlu, Dr. C. I. C. Ogbuokiri, and his wife, Theresa, remains unknown since the duo were abducted by kidnappers in the town. Although news about the kidnap remained sketchy at the time of going to press, one of the stories that made the rounds was that the man and his his wife, were being driven to the church when a commercial tricycle operator brushed their vehicle. It was also gathered that when the driver alighted from the vehicle to see the extent of the
damage, gun-totting hoodlums arrived the scene, ordered the Ogbuokiris into their waiting vehicle and sped away to an unknown destination.Another story that was weaved around the kidnap saga was that they were returning from the church and decided to visit and condole with the widow of Dr. Godwin Dibe, who died recently. The story also had it that as they were waiting at the gate of the Dibe family to be opened, the hoodlums swooped on them and took them away.An unconfirmed story had it at press time that the kidnappers had made contact with members of the Ogbuokiri family and demanded a staggering N100 million as ransom. Some people who spoke on strict grounds of anonymity, lamented bitterly that kidnapping and armed robbery were gradually but steadily resurfacing in the state.“There is hardly any day that will pass now, without the news of one form of serious crime or the other being heard. We are no longer safe in the state, despite the impression the governor and his aides have been giving to the outside world”, the woman said. She passionately appealed to the state government and the security agencies to double their efforts in securing life and property in the state. All efforts made to reach the mobile line of the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, a deputy superintendent of police, for comments proved abortive as his line could not be reached at press time.
