Hehehehehe....Governor Muhammed Badaru of Jigawa State, has launched a
goat breeding and rearing micro-credit programme for widows in Gwaram Local
Government of the state, News Agency of Nigeria reports.
This is contained in a press statement signed by the Special
Assistant on Media to the Governor, Alhaji Bello Zaki, on Monday in Dutse.
The statement said the scheme would provide three goats
including a male and two female per widow, while 20 people would benefit from
each of the 287 wards in the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
According to the statement, 17,000 goats would be
distributed across the state and 660 goats had so far been given to 220
beneficiaries in Gwaram Local Government Area.
It stated that, term of the loan was 18 months after which a
beneficiary would return the three goats given by the government.
The statement, however, noted that a high breed goat would
give birth every six months to two, three or more.
“A beneficiary is sure of at least twelve kids at the end
the 18 months term of the loan and more than 5,000 widows will benefit yearly
from the returns of the beneficiaries.
“The scheme is part of the Governor’s promise to create
employment in the state through agriculture as it is the main occupation of the
people of the state” it added.
