2Armed security men on Tuesday barricaded all roads leading to the Ekiti State Secretariat, the building that houses the State House of Assembly.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that civil servants could not get to their offices as they were turned back by the security men.
The workers returned home as they could not confront the combined force of armed policemen and personnel of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The secretariat complex was blocked by Armoured Tank and other security patrol vehicles.
An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Funsho Adegboye, led a team of security men that took over the secretariat and the House of Assembly complex.
Adegboye advised a group of protesters that converged at the legislative building to return home until peace returned to the state.
He told the labour leaders to caution their members so that the purported peaceful protest would not be hijacked by miscreants.
The Assistant Secretary-General of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr Femi Adebo, said members of the union were only out to stage a peaceful protest in support of the present administration.
“Gov. Fayose assumed office less than six months ago and we, the civil servants in the state, have not seen anything wrong that could warrant his impeachment.
“Our peaceful protest this morning is to tell the whole world that all those rumours against Fayose are not true.
“The politicians must not incite the state civil servants against the government, they must allow peace to reign in Ekiti,” Adebo said.
NAN reports that the protesters carried placards with various inscription such as: “Fayose Has Restored Hope! Leave Him for Us!”
The State Head of Service, Dr Gbenga Faseluka, had before the rally, urged them to ensure that the protest was peaceful.
He thanked the workers for their support for the present administration.
NAN Sources at the scene said a member of House, Hon Gabriel Ogundele fired the shot that killed Modupe Olaiya.

The lawmakers convoy was blocked by angry youths and Soldiers at Ita-Awure before they were ordered to return to Osogbo.
