The mayor of the town said in a news conference that the students were 10th-graders studying Spanish.
He said parents had started to arrive at the school after they were unable to reach their children on the phone.
The school sent students home for the day and will hold a special assembly on Wednesday.

An opera house in Düsseldorf, Germany, announced that a long-standing member of its ensemble, Oleg Bryjak, was among the victims of the crash.

The group’s director said that they had lost a “great artist and great man.”

A Barcelona opera house confirmed that one of the victims was Maria Radner, a performer who had just appeared at the theater.
The Gran Teatre del Liceu said on Facebook that Radner had appeared in a performance of Siegfried along with Oleg Bryjak, who also died in the crash.
“Our sincere condolences to family and friends of all victims,” the opera house said.
The opera house told the BBC that Radner’s husband and baby were also on board the flight, and were likely killed.

A mother and son from Australia were among the victims of the plane crash, the country’s foreign minister, Julie Bishop, said.
Authorities identified the pair as Carol Friday and her son Greig.
