There were 144 passengers, including two babies, and six crew members on board, Germanwings confirmed. It's unclear if weather was a factor in the crash. The debris has been located in the French Alps, but with few clear trails to the area, the search will take time.
An image from the crash site showed pieces of the plane scattered throughout the mountainside, suggesting a violent impact — and significantly decreasing the likelihood of any survivors.
