Meanwhile.....
Under-20 national team, Flying Eagles head coach, Manu Garba has a deadline of April 1 for him to submit his preliminary list of players for this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup, so soon after emerging winners of the 2015 African Youth Championship (AYC) in Senegal.
Manu now has a race against time to outline his squad roster for the trip to New Zealand, as he is expected to submit to FIFA a 35-man provisional squad for the U20 World Cup not later than April 1.
Flying Eagles secretary, Ibrahim Aliyu Auwal, who on Monday attended a preparatory FIFA workshop in Dakar, Senegal, said the deadline has been set for the four African qualifiers and all others to list a provisional squad for the Youth Mundial, which will kick off on May 30.
It is from this provisional list that teams will select their final 21-man squad for the World Cup and it is expected that a core of the squad who won Nigeria a seventh AYC title in Senegal on Sunday will make this provisional squad.
However, most likely additions could include Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City, England), Musa Yahaya (Tottenham Hotspur, England), Isaac Success, Uche Agbo (Granada, Spain) and Wilfred Ndidi (Genk, Belgium).
Others are Moses Simon (Gent, Belgium), Chidiebere Nwakali (Malaga, Spain) and Kingsley Madu (Trencin, Slovakia), while top performers at Senegal are sure bets, unless injuries rule them out.
Among the thrill makers from the recent AYC that are expected in New Zealand with Manu are the quartet that made the competition’s all star team, led by skipper Musa Muhammed and striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
Joining Muhammed and Awoniyi in the CAF Dream XI for the 2015 African Youth Championship are goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo and defensive midfielder Akinjide Idowu.
Two other Nigeria U20 stars, Izu Omego and Ifeanyi Matthew made the substitute bench for this star team of AYC 2015.
