The chairman of Labour party, Julius Abure, has said that it is in the interest of the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso to serve as the running mate of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2023 elections.

 

There have been a debate about who would serve as a running mate if both parties merge for the elections. Kwankwaso granted an interview on Sunday, July 3 where he dismissed the possibility of running as vice-presidential candidate for Peter Obi.

 

In a tweet posted on the party's handle this evening, the Party chairman was quoted as saying it would be in Kwankwaso's interest to run with Peter Obi who ''is the man of the moment- Labor party chairman''

There are none besides his investing in breweries with State funds - Bashir El-Rufai speaks on Peter Obi's 'achievements'

Bashir El-Rufai, son of Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has claimed that the only achievement to be ascribed to former Anambra state governor and Labour party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is that he invested in breweries with state funds.

 

Bashir stated this while responding to a tweet by a former lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin, who praised Mr Obi's online supporters and said if they replicate their online campaigns offline, and list some of the achievements of the former governor, they may have a 'chance.'

''You have to give it to Obidients for a well coordinated online campaign. If they could replicate a verifiable 1% of such campaign off line, abuse less and share just few achievements of PO viz Infrastructure, Education, health, housing and new cities etc, they may have a chance.''

 

Responding to the tweet, Bashir wrote

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has explained why Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party should be his running mate in the 2023 presidential election.

 

The former governor of Kano State who was in Gombe State on Saturday July 2 to inaugurate the state office of NNPP and to meet with elected members of the party, said Mr Obi being on the ticket of the NNPP as a vice-presidential candidate in 2023 would provide a viable route for the South-East to actualize its presidential ambition in the future.

 

Kwankwaso further stated that if he decides to become the Vice Presidential candidate of any politician, his party, NNPP will collapse. 

 

He said; 

 

“From the discussion with Labour Party, the main issue was who becomes the president if the parties merge.

“At the end of the day, some of our representatives thought that there should be a criteria in terms of age, qualification, offices held, performance and so on.

“Of course the other side wouldn’t want that. Most of the people from there believe that presidency has to go there (South East).

“If now I decide to be vice presidential candidate to anybody in this country; NNPP will collapse, because the party is based on what we have built in the last 30 years.

“I served for 17 years as a civil servant; we are talking of 47 years of very serious hard work that is what is rarely holding NNPP now."

 

Kwankwaso also said that while he's not against presidency going to any part of the country, it must however be done based on “strategy, political calculation and equation.” 

 

The former Governor of Kano state who also claimed that the South-East is good in business but poor in politics, added that the region which lost out on the presidential and vice presidential candidates of both All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), now has a chance with the NNPP.

 

He said; 

 

“In politics they are at the bottom line.

“Even if my friend (Peter Obi) wants to accept vice presidential candidate, some people in the South-East will not accept, that is not strategic.”

 

He said Bola Tinubu was strategic to have supported the APC in 2015 and “today he is the presidential candidate of the APC.” Mr Kwankwaso said the best option for the South East was for the zone to partner with NNPP, “this is a golden opportunity, if they lose it, it will be a disaster.”

 

On the choice of his running mate, Mr Kwankwaso said “we have options in the NNPP in the South to pick a good vice president and one of them is the Labour Party man (Peter Obi) you are talking about.”

 

On the chances of NNPP in 2023 elections, Mr Kwankwaso said his party had the structure, organisation and population across the country to contest and win elections.

Former federal lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has said that the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is the best for the job as President of Nigeria.

 

According to Dino, the fact that Atiku has married women from the three major tribes, Ibo, Hausa and Yoruba, makes him a pan-Nigerian and the best person to unify Nigerians.

 

In a video posted on his social media handles on Friday, July 1, Dino also said that in his view, it is not time for Labor party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to be President. He said that based on Peter Obi’s view of the country’s challenges, the nation does not need him for now.

 

According to Dino, the country currently needs someone who would unify the different regions and ethnic groups in the country, not someone like Obi who 'only wants to cut the cost of governance.'

2023: "Your time is not now, wait for your time" – Dino Melaye tells Peter Obi

The former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has given reasons on why he believes the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi cannot win the 2023 presidential election.

He stated that Obi’s agenda to cut cost of governance as he has listened to in Obi’s campaigns is not as important as unifying the country’s ethnic groups.

In the video shared on his verified social media platforms and seen by Fidelis Chidi Blog, Dino advised Obi to wait for his time.

He said: “Peter Obi is one of the finest Nigerians who is intellectually mobile, and administratively sagacious, a great Nigerian and has a great potential of being Nigeria’s president in the nearest future.

celebrate you Peter Obi, and I celebrate your movement. I celebrate your conscientisation of the Nigerian youth and the public on governance.

He shared the photos on his social media handles last night amidst rumors of his planned meeting with APC Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in France.

 

Political sources say the meeting was earlier scheduled to be in Spain but was moved to France where Tinubu is currently holding meetings as regards his presidential aspiration.

 

It is not clear what the intention of their 'meeting' would be.

Poju Oyemade, a Senior Pastor and Founder of The Covenant Nation deleted his tweet shared last night after many inferred it was directed at Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi. 

 

Oyemade had talked about enthusiasm of youths which according to him, shouldn't be wasted on poorly planned projects. He also tweeted that Jesus said that "no man goes to battle without taking stock first nor laying the foundation of a tower". 

 

 

Many people who reacted to the tweet, inferred that it was directed to Peter Obi whose main supporters are youths. Following the backlash he received, he deleted his tweets. 

 

NAIJA GUY AGAIN? INTERPOL arrest alleged Nigerian cybercrime kingpin in South Africa for $12m romance scam and BEC fraud

INTERPOL, in collaboration with the US Secret Service, South African Police and other agencies, has arrested an alleged Nigerian cybercrime kingpin, James Aliyu, in connection with $12m romance scam and business email compromise fraud.

 

Aliyu was arrested in a luxury Sandton estate in South Africa on Wednesday, June 29 and arraigned in the Randburg magistrate’s court. 

 

According TimesLive, the Nigerian national is well known in SA social circles and on Instagram thanks to his lavish holidays and excessive spending on luxury items for him and his girlfriend.

 

His social media posts where he flaunts his wealth have gained him 17,000 followers on his Instagram account Oldsoldier. 

 

His spending came to an end when Interpol agents arrested him at his house situated in a luxury Sandton estate, bringing to an end five years of alleged scamming activity.

 

According to law enforcement sources, after an almost six-year-long investigation into the alleged scammer’s activities, he was arrested thanks to a multi-agency investigation that included Interpol, the US department of homeland security investigations and the US Secret Service.

 

Sources claimed Aliyu has allegedly been in contact with several major convicted and suspected fraudsters from around the world and that he is considered a major player.

 

Among the fleet of luxury vehicles he allegedly bought with the proceeds of alleged fraud were a Porche Cayenne, a Mercedes C220d and a Mercedes-Benz G Class luxury SUV. His social media profiles also depict him on luxury island resorts and luxury holidays in Dubai and the US.

 

Aliyu is alleged to be part of an international syndicate, some of whose members have already been convicted in the US.

 

Aliyu came into the spotlight in August last year when Sunday World reported that he accused SA actress Khanyi Mbau’s boyfriend, Terrence Kudzai Mushonga of defrauding him in an elaborate luxury R1.2m-vehicle scam.

 

According to the article, Aliyu believed a R720,000 Mercedes and a R500,000 Jaguar which he bought from Mushonga were stolen and hijacked by criminals he claimed had worked for Mushonga.

 

He claimed that Mushonga, a Zimbabwean national, approached him and introduced himself as Dick Lefa Nzula from SA. 

 

Aliyu said Mushonga gave him copies of his SA driver’s licence, smart card ID and vehicle papers, for the change of ownership and registration of the cars to his name.

 

Aliyu also told Sunday World the documents he was given for the vehicles were fake. But Mushonga claimed he would not repay Aliyu because the money he received from Aliyu were the “proceeds of crime”.

 

The Sunday World quoted him as saying that he was “wanted by the FBI for scamming Americans millions of rand”.

 

In March 2020 the SA Reserve Bank confiscated R231,000 contained in Aliyu’s Standard Bank account under Exchange Control Regulation 22E.

 

Aliyu is expected to appear in the Randburg magistrate’s court next Tuesday July 5, where proceedings for his extradition for trial in the US are expected to start.
