Earlier before their arrest was effected by the Police in the state, a human rights group, Human Rights Defender and Advocacy of Nigeria had called on the presidency, Inspector General of Police and Benue State government, to arrest and prosecute an
The group in a statement issued by the president, Mr Innocent Agbo said 13-year-old Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje’s tragic death occurred on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 as a result of obvious complications arising from the prolonged sexual molestation by the husband of her guardian, Mr Andrew Ogbuja, and his son, Victor Ogbuja.
He said:
“We wish to express our deep disappointment and apprehension that in spite of the widespread national and international outcry against these grave acts of criminality, key government institutions at both the state and federal levels have not found it imperative to put in place the necessary machinery for the arrest and full investigation of these heinous crimes committed by the Ogbujas against Little Ochanya.
“We do not view this criminality as one committed against Little Ochanya and her immediate family, we indeed see them as crimes that no decent, civilized and justice-loving society must tolerate.
“It is therefore absolutely unacceptable and an insult to the sensibilities of Nigerians and humanity that almost a week after Little Ochanya’s gruesome death after years of torture and pain of pedophilic assaults, the principal suspects, Mr Ogbuja, who is said to be a senior lecturer at the Department of Catering and Hotel Management, Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, and his son, Victor, a final year student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, are still walking the streets as free men”.
