NOTICE OF INDUSTRIAL ACTION : You will recall
that members of MOCAN UBTH have been supportive of your administration
from the onset. We have shown patience and understanding with respect to
our salaries since July 2017 when we have been having just fraction of
our emoluments. We have also participated in various consultative forums
towards providing solutions especially as it affects staff budgetary
provisions and increasing the recurrent revenue and about issues with
computations towards implementing skipping for all doctors.
The hospital is consistently the highest grossing internally generated
in the federation, a thing we are all justly proud of which attests, to
the productivity of consultants. who are the primary owners of the
patients
However we haVe noticed that
issues about our welfare have not been addressed appropriately from the
foregoing, an Emergency General Meeting was held on Monday 3. of April,
2017.
The following grievances were noted:
1. Poor working environment in the hospital, as evident by non
functionality of the Radiology Department (X-ray Machines, Ultrasound
machines) non functional Radiotherapy Machine, malfunctioning air
conditioners in theatre, epileptic power supply (especially to Pathology
Department)
2. Members were aggrieved
about the haphazard implementation of skipping for honorary consultants
to the total exclusion of the hospital consultants.
3. A. members were aggrieved about the reversal in entry point of consultants from CONMESS 5, step 7 to 5 step
4. Members were also vexed by the persistent shortfalls in salaries of
honorary consultants since July 2016 without any visible resolution in
the
Arising from these, the members resolved as follow:
OUR DEMANDS
1. Correction of all inadequacies in provision of health services in
the hospital. X-ray machine, Radiotherapy, Ultrasound improvement in
Electricity power in the hospital. Repair of theatre Air conditioners
and provision of equipments for use in clinical area. Rehabilitation of
wards.
2. Skipping for all consultants (Honorary and Hospital)
3. Return to the entry point CONMESS 5 step 7 for consultants as approved by the Board of Management of UBTH.
4. Payment of all outstanding shortfalls of honorary consultants,
July, September, October, November, December 2016 and January 2017
We have therefore resolved to issue the management a 21 days ultimatum
for all the above demands to be met following which we may be compelled
to go on a full blown strike.
Thank you.
Prof Okonkwo C
Chairman
