hehehehe.......Human rights activist, Femi Falana has lampooned Nigerian churches using tithes for private commercial purposes.
While speaking with correspondents, popular Lagos-based Human
Rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN), has commented on Nigerian
Government's removal of Jim Obazee from the Financial Reporting Council
(FRC) board over implementation of regulatory policy of churches.
The Constitutional lawyer also criticized churches for registering
with the Corporate Affairs Commission as NGO's while they continued to
use proceeds in offerings and tithes of members for Pastor's Private
Jets and setting up of expensive schools.
"Under the law, no religious body in Nigeria can operate on its
own without check. Unfortunately, the Corporate Affairs Commission has
been sleeping.
"For instance, there's no law that allows you to take money
from the church, invest in business and privatise it. No, that is
against Part C of the CAC.
"It is only in Nigeria where you can take money from the
church, money contributed by poor congregation members, you go and set
up a university that the members can not attend...can not send their
children to. It is against the law of God. it is against our
constitution", Falana said.
