 Stages of ChildbirthStages of Childbirth
There are 3 stages of labor which on average take 12-18 hours to complete before the baby finally arrives (for a first pregnancy). Subsequent children usually arrive earlier after an average labor of 7 hours.
 BREECH POSITIONS

Breech
Breech Positions
A breech position is where the baby enters the pelvis of the mother in preparation for birth - but instead of being head first (normal), their buttocks or feet are first (essentially they are the wrong way up). This poses some risks for childbirth and most breech babies are delivered by c-section.

Epidural For Pain Relief
An epidural is a local anesthesia which is injected into the spine to provide pain relief during childbirth. Most women take the decision whether or not to have an epidural sometime before going into labor.
HOMEBIRTH

Every year in America about 50,000 women choose to have their babies at home. Although this only accounts for 1 percent of all births, the figure is on the increase. One of the main reasons for the rising popularity of home births (particularly waterbirths), is a woman's desire to avoid over-medicalized hospital births.

                                                                           WATERBIRTHS

Waterbirth delivery

A waterbirth is where a woman delivers in water, usually a shallow pool, hot tub or Jacuzzi. The water simulates an environment similar to the womb where the baby slips from the warm wet womb, into a warm wet birthing pool. The baby is immediately pulled out the water and placed in the mother’s arms. As the baby does not breathe until its lungs hit the air, there is no chance of drowning.

Cesarean is a surgical procedure where the baby is delivered through an incision of the abdomen and uterus.
Cesarean delivery rates are at an all time high of more than 31 percent of all deliveries.

PREMATURE BABY

Babies born before week 28 are less likely to survive childbirth and if they do, about 50 percent will have a disability such as cerebral palsy and 1 in 5 will have intellectual difficulties. Fortunately most babies who are born after 32 weeks have a good chance of growing up healthy without any problems.
