Gambia: OBOY Jammeh’s whereabouts unknown as ECOMOG orders troop to capture him dead or alive

jammeh
hehehehe....matter don hot.......The whereabouts of the outgoing President of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh was unknown as at Thursday.
This was just as last-minute attempts by Mauritanian President, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, to convince Jammeh to give up the presidency, failed.

There are indications he may have gone into hiding in a bid to escape being further persuaded into conceding defeat after he earlier devised a means of extending his stay, by declaring a 90-day State of Emergency.
”He has probably gone into hiding to stop further negotiation,” A Gambian journalist who pleaded his identity be protected told Fidelis Chidi Blog.
Recall that the embattled president’s tenure ended Wednesday midnight, although, he has insisted he won’t step down,  despite losing the December 1 election.
But President-elect, Adama Barrow, had vowed to go ahead with his inauguration on Thursday, and ECOWAS, the regional bloc, had vowed to use military force if necessary to remove resolute Jammeh.
Troops from Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana on Thursday remained in position in Senegal in case a military intervention becomes necessary.
An ECOMOG military Commander, Maiga Mboro told AP, “All the troops are already in place and some not far from the Gambian border.
“Already 11 pilots, 11 crew members and 80 supporting troops have been deployed close to the Gambian border.”
Meanwhile, the president-elect, who is awaiting his swearing-in today, affirmed that Jammeh’s tenure was “officially over”.

The unrest in Gambia currently has the world's attention and everyone seems to have an opinion about the crisis in the West African country.
Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo is not left out. According to the actor, Gambia's stubborn, sit tight president Yahya Jammeh, 'should have just accepted the asylum deal from Nigeria. He's now going to forced off the "Seat". This could end up being bloody'.

With Gambia in the news worldwide, there's no better time to recall this throwback photo on Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke and Gambia's Yahya Jammeh.

The photo was taken in October 2014 when Jim Iyke attended Yahya Jammeh's 20th anniversary.

Back then, he captioned the photo, 'With H. E Sheikh Prof. Alhaji Dr Yahya Abdul-Azziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh Babili Mansa. President of Gambia on the occasion of his 20th Anniversary. #BanjulChronicles #BurgeonForever'.

This photo was taken in 1994 when defiant Gambian president, Yahya Jammeh, who was then 29 years old, took over power 22 years ago. He was a Lieutenant and Chairman of Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council.

The Government of Botswana has officially denounced Yahya Jammeh, as President of The Gambia. A statement issued today, January 19, 2017,  said the country will cease to recognize him as President of Gambia with immediate effect.

According to Botswana government, the decision was because Yahya Jammeh has refused to hand power to President-elect  Adama Barrow.

'Following Mr. Yahya Jammeh’s refusal to hand over power to the President-elect Adama Barrow, in accordance with the expressed will of the Gambian people, the Government of Botswana announces that it will no longer recognize Mr. Jammeh as the President of Gambia, together with his Government,” the statement said.

RE: THE GAMBIA – BOTSWANA NO LONGER RECOGNISES MR. JAMMEH

PRESS RELEASE Gaborone, 19th January 2017: Following Mr. Yahya Jammeh’s refusal to hand over power to the President-elect Adama Barrow, in accordance with the expressed will of the Gambian people, the Government of Botswana announces that it will no longer recognise Mr. Jammeh as the President of Gambia, together with his Government. This decision which takes effect immediately is consistent with Botswana’s position as articulated through the Press Release of 16th December 2016.

Mr. Jammeh’s decision not to respect the will of the Gambian people undermines the ongoing efforts to consolidate democracy and good governance in The Gambia and Africa as a whole. This is also in direct contravention of the spirit and aspirations of the African Union Constitutive Act.

The Government of Botswana therefore continues to appeal to the international community to do all within its power to exert pressure on Mr. Jammeh to hand over power in order to ensure a smooth transition.
