THE Nigeria police has on Saturday, March 4, 2017 arrested two armed robbery suspects who recently robbed and attempt to kill a Catholic priest who is a parish priest of Saint Joseph Parish Okpare-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State with battle axe.
The suspects who were arrested through a tip off was said to have taken one of the stolen laptop of the priest for a battery charge when they were apprehended. A reliable source revealed that during the process of powering the laptop the photograph of the priest and his name used as screen saver displayed and this arose the curiosity of those around to probe further until their instinct prove them right. According to the source, one of the youth in the parish who was at the scene alerted some members of the church who in turn alerted the men of the vigilantee group in the area who perfected the arrest before handling the suspects over to the Otu-Jeremi police for further interrogation. Also arrested is the security man attached to parish who was said not to have been on guard on the faitful day of the robbery. Upon interrogation it was discovered that one of the suspects is a son to the security man and the other his son In-law while one is still at large. When contacted, the IPO of the case told our reporter that the suspectes has been transfered to Asaba as directed by Commissioner of Police who is aware of the case. It could be recalled that on February 11, a group of armed robbers invaded the priest rectory of St. Joseph parish, Okpare-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area and injured the parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Stephen Ekakabor who has since been in coma as his brain was seriously affected.
